To make a carpet in those days required tremendous perseverance. Although cotton came to be used for the warp and weft of the city carpets, the herds of sheep that surrounded the tribes provided the basic material, wool. Hence wool is still used until today in most tribal carpets. The cold mountain climate provides an added advantage in that the wool is finer and has longer fibers than wool from sheep in warmer climates. |
